SINGLETON riders Stephen and Matthew Mapp have won the team roping at the most famous rodeo in Australia at Warwick in Queensland at the weekend.
They won with a two-round time of 22.95 seconds from Central Queensland pair Jordan Austin-Iker and Cameron Milner.
Johnny Osborne, of Warwick, the most successful team roper in Australian Professional Rodeo Association history, joined with Moree cowboy Troy Caban for third.
The winners were third in their section in round 1 but rose to the occasion when it mattered most in the final.
They won from a field as good as any assembled in the APRA, including Emerald rider Shane Kenny who has won 31 national titles.
It was a successful weekend for New South Wales riders with Wendy Caban (Moree) winning the barrel race, Troy Wilkinson (Upper Horton) best in the bull ride and Cody Angland (Wagga Wagga) splitting first in the bareback bronc ride with Miles rider Clint Burton.
The next APRA rodeo is the Jimna Bull Ride at Toyota Landcruiser Park, Jimna, Queensland, on Friday and Saturday (November 1-2) for APRA championship points.
Gill Brothers will travel from Upper Horton with the bulls for the Jimna event. There will be a APRA rodeo at Rosewood, New South Wales, on December 7 and then the Christmas Run of seven rodeos in New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia starts on December 26 at Myrtleford.
