PAST Australian Professional Rodeo Association all around champion Mark Knox and his wife Tamara will be two to watch on the Northern Run after showing top form early in the new season.

Mark is a past winner of the all around, rope and tie and team roping APRA titles and was a winner in both events at the recent Bundaberg Rodeo.

He and Tamara are two of the best in a sport where there are couples and family groups galore in action at every rodeo.

They live at Ebenezer near Ipswich were Mark works as a farrier, an occupation pursued by many competitors in horse sports.

While most of the all around champions at the timed event end of the arena compete in all three timed events, Mark concentrates on roping in the individual and team events.

The Northern Run is one which sorts out the best, especially at Cloncurry and Mt Isa, two of the big three rodeos in the APRA.

Last season, Mark was eighth in the rope and tie standings so has qualified for the Warwick Rodeo Australian Championships at the Warwick Showgrounds on October 22-25.

Tamara qualified 13th for the championships but will need to perform well in Warwick as 12 finalists will take more carry-over points into the finals from their performances on the pro tour in the 2015 season which ended on April 30.

Neither Mark or Tamara will be eligible to go for all around titles as both are only in one titles at the championships.

The first rodeo on the Northern Run will be at Emerald on July10-11 which will run in conjunction with the Junior National Finals Rodeo.

APRA RODEO PROGRAM: July 10 Emerald Bull Ride; July 10-11 Junior National Finals Rodeo at Emerald; July 11 Emerald Rodeo; July 18 Taroom; July 25 Richmond; July 31-August 1 Cloncurry Merry Muster Rodeo; August 7-9 Mt Isa Rotary Rodeo; August 15 Katherine, August 22 Darwin; September 12 Pussycat Flats Rodeo, NT.
