KIRWIN rider Chris Cameron is in his first season at the top of the team roping heeler standings in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association.

He is one of four North Queenslanders in the top-8 in team roping standings.

Cameron joined with Jace Land to win the first round and the aggregate at the richest rodeo in Australia at Mt Isa in August.

The pair had the fastest time of Mt Isa, 7.4 seconds.

Victorian star Aaron Bookluck was second behind Cameron in the heeler standings at the end of 2015 but Bookluck has enjoyed some success on the Christmas Run in the southern states and is set to challenge for the lead.

Land hails from Charters Towers and trails Hughenden rider Clancy Middleton in team roping header standings.

While Cameron and Land are almost assured of qualifying for the Australian championships in the APRA this year, the more money they win in the 2016 season will give them more carry-over points in the battle for the championship buckles.

Charters Towers rider Liam Davison is fourth in team roping header standings three places behind Cameron which gives North Queenslanders four of the top-eight on the circuit.

With the Northern Run in the APRA in July and August, Cameron and Land will need to travel south for some of the 27 remaining rodeos this season to boost their championship chances.

Their best chance of action will be in their home state at Emerald and Roma at Easter.

They also have the chance to head south for three rodeo on the Victorian long weekend in March.

The next Queensland Rodeo will be at Millmerran on the Darling Downs on February 27.

The timed events will start at 1pm and the rough stock at 6.30pm on two different arenas at the Millmerran Showgrounds.

Earlier this month, Millmerran rider John McNamee won the saddle bronc in the final rodeo on the Christmas Run at Beechworth (Victoria) so will be one to watch at his hometown rodeo. Former Millmerran and now Augathella rider Peter Moffatt had two wins on the Christmas Run so will be one of the favourites if he nominates for Millmerran.

Bucking stock for Millmerran will be supplied by Frank Biddle (Warwick) and the Gill Brothers, Malcolm and Eddie, from Upper Horton in NSW.
