FORMER AUSTRALIAN BREAKAWAY ROPING

Former Australian Breakaway Roping Champion Kerry Turner of Charlwood has won the Ladies Breakaway Roping Pro Tour title in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association.

She has won the breakaway roping title with one of the biggest margins this season after strong performances across the nation.

Turner proved her ability at the richest rodeo in the association at Mt Isa in August when she won round 2 with a time of 4.25 seconds to finish fourth overall.

The pro tour titles in each event will be determined by most money won in the season to April 30.

The top-15 in each event will qualify for the Jeep National Finals Rodeo at the Gold Coast on June 13-16.

Despite being a runaway leader for most of the season, Turner will start from scratch at the finals along with the other 14 cowgirls who qualify.

She won the pro tour title from Stephanie Gard, of Table Top, New South Wales, and Rachelle Carlo, of Delaneys Creek in South East Queensland.

At the finals, Turner will face some of her toughest opposition from Emerald cowgirl Leanne Caban and past all around champion Cherie O’Donoghue, of Lockington, Victoria.

Caban was second in the breakaway roping standings behind Turner at the midway point of the season.

Turner is third in all-around cowgirl standings behind likely winner Adele Edwards, of Gundagai, New South Wales, and Gard, but won’t be in the running for the all-around title at the NFR as she is not in the top-15 in her second event, the barrel race.
