APRA PRO TOUR CHAMPIONS

SPRINGSURE roper Brendan Kenny is one of three Queenslanders to win pro tour titles in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association.

Kenny won the team roping heeler title from Victorian rider Andrew McQualter-Whyte.He will go into the Jeep National Finals Rodeo in the APRA on June 13-16 at the Gold Coast Convention Centre as one of the favourites for the title.
Victorian rider Aaron Bookluck won the team roping header pro tour title so will also be one of the favourites to be part of a winning team.

Kenny and Bookluck combined to win at the richest rodeo on the circuit, Mt Isa, last year. They won the first round in a time of 7.7 seconds and were second in round 2 in 8.8.
They won the aggregate by nine seconds from Emerald riders Shane Kenny and Grant Hanrahan.
Brendan Kenny was the only rider to win twice as much money as the runner-up in a pro tour title in the 2012-2013 season.

Team roping is the only event in the APRA where both men and women compete on an equal footing.

After being a runaway leader all season, Charlwood (Qld) rider Kerry Turner has won the breakaway roping title. She won from one of the best of all time in the APRA, Lockington, Victoria, rider Cherie O’Donoghue.

In one of the closest battles for a pro tour title, Wandoan rider Cameron Webster just won the saddle bronc tour buckle from all around and bull riding champion Brad Pierce, of Tooma, New South Wales.

Victorian rider Terry Evison won two pro tour titles by under $500 in prize money from Alton Downs star Shane Iker.Evison won the rope and tie, and steer wrestling.

While he missed out on the pro tour titles, Iker will be a top chance at the NFR where each of the 15 finalists starts off on zero points.

None of the prize money won during the pro tour season is carried into the finals.

One of the unlucky Queenslanders in the race for a pro tour title is Gore rider Fred Osman who lost a tight battle for the bareback bronc pro tour title to Gunnedah rider Wade Clifford. Both competed in Victoria and Queensland at Easter in an effort to win the pro tour.

In cowgirl events, New South Wales rider Adele Edwards, of Gundagai, won the all around title and Leslie Moore, of Denman, won the pro tour title in barrel racing.

There will be five rounds in four days at the titles at the Gold Coast. Tickets on sale through Ticketek.
