APRA EVENTS IN VIC AND SA

Riders from NSW, Victoria and South Australia eye off rodeos at Sale and Clare

THERE will be plenty of cross border traffic on Saturday (March 4) as Australian Professional Rodeo Association events are held at Sale in Victoria and Clare in South Australia.

Both rodeos have attracted more than 100 nominations as competitors aim for placings and Championship Points to boost their qualification chances for the APRA National Finals in Warwick (Qld) in October.

The major drawcard at the Sale Rodeo in Victoria on Saturday will be up and coming Lavington (NSW) Bull Rider Ben Gard who has proved in the past year he is working his way up the ladder. Gard recently placed second with an 82 at Myrtleford Golden Spurs Rodeo over the Christmas Run and before that placed first on 79 at Keith Rodeo both in the open Bull Ride.

Some of the closest competition will be in the Barrel Race where 2015 APRA  All Around Champion Stephanie Gard, of Albury in New South Wales, will do battle in a large field which includes star Victorian performers Elley Hulls and Leslie Moore.

Tyrrell to Clare

TONGALA (Vic) cowboy Cody Tyrrell is one of the tough men of the sport as he has nominated for the Saddle Bronc, Bareback Bronc and Bull Ride at the Clare Rodeo in South Australia on Saturday (March 4).

It is rare in the modern era for a cowboy to compete in three rough stock events at the one rodeo.

In cowgirl events, current Australian Champion Shianne O’Donoghue-Kent from Bunjip in Victoria will go head-to-head in the Breakaway Roping with current National recordholder Candy Michaelis, of Lewiston, in South Australia.

Current APRA Executive Chairman Lee Kimber will travel from Lockington in Victoria to compete at Clare on Saturday.

Kapunda (SA) rider Kevin Reynolds will be one of the toughest for Kimber to beat in timed events.

More information from APRA on 07 4661 8183

Clare Rodeo will start from 5:30pm at the Clare Showgrounds.

Sale Rodeo is held at the Sale Greyhound Complex and action will commence from 6pm
