HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MOST FAMOUS RODEO...

A TIE in the bareback bronc ride was one of the highlights of the most famous rodeo in Australia at Warwick at the weekend.

Miles rider Clint Burton scored 152 in two rounds to split first with Wantabadgery, NSW, rider Cody Angland.

Angland capped a fine rodeo with a second place in the saddle bronc ride behind winner Toby Collins, of Maldon, Victoria.

Burton is almost assured of qualifying for the next National Finals Rodeo after narrowly missing the title in June.

As is often the case at the Warwick Rodeo, the best bulls in the nation scored a victory against the cowboys.

At the weekend, only one of the 10 finalists made time, overall winner Troy Wilkinson, of Upper Horton, NSW, who was a deserving winner with scores of 82 and 85.

Beaudesert and former New Zealand rider Fraser Babbington was second overall with his winning first round score of 85.

Maldon, Victoria, rider Toby Collins is just back from competing in North America and won the saddle bronc on 155 points, one ahead of runner up Angland. Mitchell rider Greg Hamilton was third.

Emerald cowboy Shane Kenny recorded a winning time of 23.5 seconds over two head in the rope and tie to win from Warwick rider Allan Flood who was runner up.

Roma rider Clay Gordon won the steer wrestling while Singleton pair Stephen and Matthew Mapp made a trip from the Hunter Valley worthwhile with a win in team roping.

In cowgirl events, it was one win to Queensland and one to New South Wales.

Cheyenne Whitwell, of Mt Tarampa, won the breakaway roping and Moree rider Wendy Caban was victorious in the barrel race.

The next APRA rodeo is the Jimna Bull Ride at Toyota Landcruiser Park, Jimna, Queensland, on Friday and Saturday (November 1-2) for APRA championship points.

Gill Brothers will travel from Upper Horton with the bulls for the Jimna event. There will be a APRA rodeo at Rosewood, New South Wales, on December 7 and then the Christmas Run of seven rodeos in New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia starts on December 26 at Myrtleford.
