ROY DUNN LEADS IN BULL RIDE STANDINGS

PROSERPINE cowboy Roy Dunn has maintained his lead in bull ride standings in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association.

Like many of the Queenslanders in the APRA, he travelled south to compete on the Christmas Run.

Dunn has twice as much prizemoney as runner-up Sam Champ from Merdale just north of Brisbane.

There are seven Queenslanders in the top-15, including Ryan Storey (Dingo, third), Cody Teece (Tolga, fifth), Troy Mara (Glenden, eighth), Sonny Schafferius (Dysart, 10th) and Guy Ford (Rockhampton, Qld) 15th.

With only three months of the season to go, Dunn is a runaway leader from Champ in the battle for the rookie title in the APRA.

Roma bareback bronc rider Jamie Howlett is in third place in rookie standings.

The leaders in the standings at the end of the season will secure pro tour buckles for most money won in the season.

Emerald cowboy Shane Kenny has secured the all around cowboy pro tour buckle but there is a close battle for the ladies buckle. Moree (NSW) cowgirl Wendy Caban has a narrow lead over two Queenslanders, Jill Lyons from Gracemere and Jane Fay from Warra.

There are rodeos in New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania this weekend which will enable the southern riders to make up ground in the battle for top-15 spots and qualification for the national finals at the Warwick Australian Championships Rodeo on October 22-25.

The next rodeo in Queensland will be the Millmerran Show Rodeo on February 28.
