COOYAR bull rider Jack McArthur has drawn the bull Dust N Bones for the Millmerran Show Rodeo on Saturday. (February 28)

Timed event action at Millmerran starts at 1pm with the bull ride, saddle bronc and bareback bronc rides at 6.30pm at the Millmerran Showgrounds.

McArthur finished midfield in the top-15 in Australian Professional Rodeo Association standings last season and needs to win prize money at Millmerran to start his move up the standings in the final two months of this season.

His toughest opposition in the bull ride at Millmerran will come from Meldale rider Sam Champ who has drawn Howler History. Champ is currently second in APRA standings in the bull ride.

Last weekend, Toowoomba rider Owen Lee won the bareback bronc ride at Narrandera in southern New South Wales but won’t be at Millmerran on Saturday as he has nominated for the Sale Rodeo in Victoria.

Lee currently leads the bareback standings in the APRA from Wandoan cowboy David Worsfold who is the favourite to win at Millmerran,

In the saddle bronc, Warwick pair Michael Maher and Mark Collins are two of the favourites along with the Turveys from St George, John and Andrew, and Mitchell rider Greg Hamilton.

Maher is the current APRA standings leader and will ride Moves Like Jagger at Millmerran while third-placed Collins will be on the horse Good Time Charlie.

With two months of the current season to go, Maher and Collins will both be chasing prize money which will translate into carry-over points when the top-15 in each APRA event contest the national finals at the Warwick Australian Championship Rodeo on October 22-25.

Both travelled to Narrandera last weeked but were unplaced in the saddle bronc ride which was won by Tooma (NSW) rider Brad Pierce.

Mt Tarampa cowgirl Cheyenne Whitwell will be one of the favourites for the cowgirl events at Millmerran.

Whitwell will face her toughest opposition from current all around title holder Nichole Fitzpatrick, of Willow Tree (NSW), Moree (NSW) rider Wendy Caban and Warra roping star Jane Fay.

APRA Program: February rodeos: February 28 Sale (Vic); February 28 Millmerran Show Rodeo.

March rodeos: March 6 Kyabram (Vic); March 7 Gowrie Park (Tas); March 7 Merrijig (Vic); March 8 Chiltern (Vic); March 14 Clare (SA); March 21 Comet (Qld).
