Kenny will be one of 135 nominations for the Warwick Rodeo Australian Championships on October 22-25 at the Warwick Showgrounds.
The championships will bring together the best 15 in all eight APRA championship events, including the top 15 combinations in team roping.
Kenny has won 12 titles in rope and tie, three in steer wrestling and two in team roping, the three events he will contest at this year’s finals.
His most amazing performance in the APRA, by far the most in history, is his 14 all around titles for most successful cowboy across all events.
He won his first title in the rope and tie at age 17 in 1991 and a year later was being presented with the buckle for all around cowboy champion.
The only achievement left for Kenny is to win four titles in the same year, a huge ask especially in a sport with three variables, rider, horse and beast.
In 2010, he won the all around, rope and tie and team roping but didn’t win the title in steer wrestling.
At this year’s nationals, he will compete against two multiple title winners in timed events, Alton Downs rider Shane Iker and Ebenezer roper Mark Knox.
While many of the favourites for timed events are from Queensland, two Southern riders set to do well in Warwick include former Warwick State High School student Lee Kimber from Lockington, Victoria, and Willung (Vic) star Terry Evison.
Kimber finished the year on top of the standings in his best event, steer wrestling.
The Warwick Rodeo Australian Championships will be contested over four rounds starting on the Thursday with a round a day until the Sunday.
There will be second-division and junior events as well as the championships during a week in which the best riders in the country will go up against the best rough stock in the nation and the 15 best in timed events will go head-to-head on some of the best horses in the country.
