QUEENSLAND riders Greg Hamilton, John McNamee, Peter Moffatt and Peel Tribe were placed in saddle bronc on the last weekend of action on the Christmas Run in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association.
The biggest annual run in the APRA was held over three weekends in four states.
Hamilton (Mitchell, Qld) won at Finley in New South Wales with a score of 79, two more than McNamee (Millmerran) and Tribe (Warwick).
After a second at Finley, McNamee went one place better the next day to win at Beechworth in Victoria. He also won the all around cowboy award at Beechworth.
McNamee scored 81 in saddle bronc at Beechworth to win from Brad Pierce (Tooma, NSW), and Heath Chalmers (Beverfod, Vic) on 76 and Moffatt on 75.
Moffatt is originally from Millmerran but now calls Milawa (VIC) home.
He enjoyed a successful Christmas Run with two early wins, equal first with Chalmers at Tumbarumba(NSW) and first at Yarrawonga in Victoria.
After winning the Australian title at Warwick in October in the saddle bronc, Pierce proved he has maintained his form with his second at Beechworth after winning the bull ride at Finley with the only score, 83.
Victorian rider Cody Tyrrell (Tongala, Vic) and Parrish May (Mitchell, Qld) split first in the bareback at Finley from third-placed Fred Osman (Tibooburra, NSW) who has also called Gore in Queensland home during his successful career in the APRA. Osman started the Christmas Run with a second in the bareback at Carrieton in South Australia.
Ben Thorp from Young (NSW) won the bull ride at Beechworth with 80. Ben Hall (Tumbarumba, NSW) and May split first in the bareback with 76.
The success of McNamee and Moffatt makes them two of the favourites for the Millmerran Rodeo on February 27, the first this year in Queensland.
