APRA ACTION HEAD TO MILLMERRAN

AUSTRALIAN Professional Rodeo Association action will head to Millmerran in Queensland on February 27 when a rodeo is held at the Millmerran Showgrounds.

Most of the action in the first two months of the year has been in the southern states.

The timed events in the show rodeo will be held in the larger showgrounds arena in the afternoon and rough stock events in a smaller arena in the evening.

The most eagerly awaited event at Millmerran will be saddle bronc as home town hero John McNamee will be competing against a top field.

McNamee is currently second in Australian Professional Rodeo Association standings behind leader Michael Maher, of Warwick. Mark Collins of Warwick is third so the odds of a Darling Downs win at Millmerran are high.

Peter Moffatt has proved to be one of the best saddle bronc riders in the nation in the past five years and may make the trip from Western Queensland to compete. He is originally from Millmerran and has a habit of rising to the occasion at his hometown rodeo.

All eight APRA championship events will be held at Millmerran. As has been the case down south, it is expected there will be strong numbers in the top cowgirl events, barrel racing and breakaway roping, as well as the bucking, steer wrestling and roping.

APRA all around standings leader Errol Frain lives at Yeppoon and is expected to be one of many from Central Queensland to make the trek south to Millmerran.

The first Central Queensland APRA rodeo in more than two months will be the Comet Benefit Rodeo on March 19 and then there will be a Friday night bull ride and Sunday rodeo on the Easter Weekend at Roma. The Destiny Downs Good Friday Fiesta at Emerald will cater for timed events riders on Good Friday and the Emerald Easter Sunflower Festival Rodeo will be on Easter Saturday.
