Rodeo heads to CQ with 216 nominations for St Brendan’s Rodeo
AFTER winning the all around title at the August Mt Isa Rotary Rodeo, Rockhampton cowboy Cameron Milner will head to the St Brendan’s Rodeo at Yeppoon on Saturday (Sept 3) in quest of more prize money in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association.
St Brendan’s College Rodeo will commence at 5:45pm at St Brendan’s College.
He won the team roping at the Mt Isa Rodeo with Emerald rider Shane Kenny and both will be in action at St Brendan’s.
Both Milner and Kenny have nominated for team roping and rope and tie while Kenny is also in a strong field in the steer wrestling.
Kenny’s brother Kacey, a specialist in steer wrestling, has nominated for the event in Yeppoon along with Alton Downs father-and-son team Shane and Jordan Iker.
The field for the bull ride will be led by Mt Isa winner Jared Borghero from Alton Downs. He will face a strong field at Yeppoon, including Proserpine star Roy Dunn and Central Queensland rider Jason Mara.
The Cabans from Emerald will compete in timed events, Leanne in breakaway roping and the barrel race and husband Dale in the rope and tie and team roping.
Leanne will be competing in her first APRA championship points rodeo since winning the breakaway roping at Mt Isa.
The rodeo on Saturday has attracted 216 nominations, including 31 in team roping, 30 in the junior steer ride, including some St Brendan’s students, and 23 in the ladies barrel race.
The rodeo is for championship points in the APRA and will be one of the last chances for competitors to fine tune their form before the four rounds of The Warwick Rodeo National Finals on October 27-30.
The top 15 in each event to April 30 have already qualified for this year’s finals and riders are already chasing prize money and a position in the top 15 to qualify for next year’s national finals in Warwick.
