CHARTERS TOWERS rider Bridie Davison will be the favourite for the Breakaway Roping at the New Year’s Eve Rodeo at Mt Isa.
Davison will feel at home heading to the Buchanan Park arena in Mt Isa after winning the final and placing second overall behind Emerald ride Leanne Caban at Mt Isa earlier this year in August.
This performance and placing in the Team Roping with partner Warrick Hale which has put her in the All Around and Breakaway Roping standings in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association.
There will be strong fields in cowgirl events at Mt Isa with Tenielle Middleton from Hughenden a strong chance for a placing in both the Barrel Race and Breakaway Roping.
Middleton is currently seventh in Barrel Race standings. Townsville rider Susie Fearon (12th) and P.J. Hanrahan (13th) from Gogango are other Queenslanders in the top 15 heading to Mt Isa for the Barrel Race.
Richmond rider Nicola Lillyman has nominated in the Breakaway Roping and could surprise the top riders.
Hughenden Saddle Bronc rider Gavin Fry has placed at the Warwick Rodeo and will compete at Mt Isa on New Year’s Eve.
Action at Mt Isa will be in the three rough stock events, three roping events, Steer Wrestling and the Barrel Race.
Championship points will be on offer in eight APRA events as riders aim to finish in the top-15 and qualify for next year’s Finals at Warwick on the last weekend in October.
The Mt Isa New Year’s Eve Rodeo is at Buchanan Park commencing at 5pm on Saturday (December 31). Darren Brandenburg is the stock contractor.
