2013 JEEP NATIONAL FINALS RODEO

RIDERS from Central Queensland dominated in the rope and tie, and steer wrestling at the Jeep National Finals Rodeo in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association.

Emerald cowboy Shane Kenny won his 14th all around title in the APRA on Sunday night after winning his first in 1992.

He also won the rope and tie title and the aggregate from runner-up Shane Iker, of Alton Downs.

Kenny proved that consistency is what is needed to win titles, not just round wins.

He recorded three seconds and a fourth to win the rope and tie title and the aggregate from Iker who won two of the rounds.

Emerald rider Clancy Middleton won round 4 with the second fastest winning time at the NFR, 9.4 seconds. Iker was the fastest with 9.1 in round 3.

In steer wrestling, Rockhampton rider Cameron Bell took the early lead in the battle for the title with a win in round 1 and third in round 2. He was unplaced in round 3 but finished with wins in the final two rounds to win the title and aggregate.

Shane Kenny recorded two seconds in steer wrestling to help his all around chances and Middleton was third in round 3.

Emerald combination Clancy Middleton and Brody Moss were second in the aggregate in team roping behind NSW pair Peter Young and Jeff Miller, a former Emerald resident.

In team roping, Shane Kenny and fellow Emerald rider Grant Hanrahan won round 5. Clermont rider Brendan Kenny combined with his winning teammate from last year, Aaron Bookluck, of Nilma North, Victoria, to win round 4 in 5.3 seconds, the fastest time at the finals.

Dingo bull rider Ryan Storey scored 81 to win round 4 of the NFR at the Gold Coast.

In cowgirl events, the best performed rider from Central Queensland was Kym Ash, of Comet, who won round 1 of breakaway roping in 2.7 seconds.
