QLD PAIR GOING FOR SADDLE BRONC SUCCESS

Queensland pair going for saddle bronc success in Tri Series rodeo

JOHN McNamee and Cameron Webster will lead the Queensland charge in the three Tri Series rodeos this weekend in Victoria

There are 1077 nominations for the three Victorian Tri Series rodeos in the Australian Professional Rodeo Committee this weekend.

Monday (March 11) is a public holidays in Victoria which allows the Chiltern Rodeo committee to run its rodeo on Sunday.

A large number of Queensland riders are heading south for the three rodeos led by saddle bronc stars McNamee (Millmerran) and Webster (Wandoan).

Both have the chance to boost their standings positions by competing in all three Tri State rodeos.

McNamee is 7th in saddle bronc standings and Webster 8th.

Three of the top four on APRA saddle bronc standings are competing this weekend.

Rosewood (NSW) rider Tim Hammond is second in saddle bronc ahead of Tooma (NSW) cowboy Brad Pierce and Beverfod (Victoria) competitor Heath Chalmers.

Hammond had a second in a round in last year’s national finals in saddle bronc and Webster recorded a third in a round and fourth in the aggregate.

There are 20 nominations in the bull ride at Kyabram led by last year’s title winner Brady Fielder who will travel from Central Queensland to compete in the Tri State rodeos this weekend.

The highest-placed cowboy competing in the Tri State rodeo bull ride is Merrijig cowboy Will Purcell who is currently in third place in the standings and lining up for three rodeos this weekend.

Overall, the Kyabram Rodeo has 319 nominations in open, second division and junior events for Friday, Merrijig has 381 on Saturday and Chiltern 377 on Sunday.

There are solid numbers all weekend in cowgirl events. The most is in breakaway roping with 45 and the barrel race with 43 at Chiltern.

The next APRA rodeo in Queensland is at Clermont on March 30.

There are five rodeos at Easter, the Roma Xtreme Bulls and Destiny Downs Timed Event Fiesta on Good Friday, a full championship points rodeo at Emerald on Saturday, a full championship points rodeo at Roma on Easter Sunday and Ayers Timed Event Rodeo in Roma on Monday.
